FAQ

Q: What makes our tutoring different from anyone else?

A: We would love for you to come in and view one of our tutors in a live tutoring session to see if you believe we could fit your needs. But, we understand that is not always possible. So, to attempt to sum up how we operate, we cater to your needs through the use of multiple, real-life problems that you are going to see on quizzes, tests, exams, homeworks, etc. We have found that directly going over problems that you are going to be seeing in class is the most beneficial to you. Once you feel comfortable enough with us, you will find it that much easier to stop us and ask questions that you maybe typically wouldn’t in the classroom setting. Again, it is hard to put one particular style that we follow. We differentiate our direct instruction based on your needs; stop in to see a live session in progress today!

Q: Where do we tutor?

A: Currently, our D.S. Solutions staff is located in Wesminster, MD; Towson, MD; Belair, MD; and Catonsville, MD. Since most our clientele are spread throughout MD, we have decided to wait on investing in an office location. So, we meet in places like libraries, universities, coffee shops, and our clienteles’ own homes!

Q: What if I or my child has a 504 or IEP?

A: You are more than welcome at D.S. Solutions; you are encouraged to check us out! Devin, our founder, is extensively knowledgeable as a special educator and prides D.S. Solutions as reflecting that same knowledge and expertise. We know and realize how important and influential one-on-one attention and support can be; if you still have questions about you or your child’s specific disabilities, please contact us today!

Q: When is payment due and what forms of payment are accepted?

A: Payment is due prior to the first session if you are signing up for a parent/student package. We currently accept echecks, major credit cards, and linked bank accounts through Paypal which can be accessed by client invoice. Also, for our staff who have smartphones, we will be accepting all major credit cards through Square onsite! A 5% sales tax will be added in order to compensate for merchant fees!

Q: Why are your hourly rates more expensive than your parent/student package plan rates?

A: We want to discourage you from just meeting with us and then leaving us for a quick homework assignment or problem section in the class. We have found it so beneficial for our students to consistently meet with someone throughout a given month that we want to offer you that luxury at a cheaper hourly rate then just using our services for one hour!

Q: Do you travel in order to do in-home tutoring?

A: Yes, we do! If you are under 30 minutes of total driving time from the home location of your tutor than we will come to you free of charge. If it is greater than 30 minutes of total driving time, we assess $1 per mile round trip fee (or less depending upon package), which is below the standard of what a mile is currently worth.

Q: I have someone who may be interested in math tutoring, how should I go about telling them about your company?

A: Firstly, we are honored that you would choose to recommend us to your friends, family, co-workers, etc. It means a lot to us to have our customers believe in what we are doing- a large amount of our current customers are from referrals last semester. We would be more than happy to talk to your certain someone interested in math tutoring. All you have to do is either have them call/email us and mention your name so you are able to receive your possible free referral income/sessionor we can call them and explain our company to them after you contact us! It is that simple! Also, we will be having some D.S. Solutions literature in a brochure form coming soon!

Q: Is it true I can receive cash OR free sessions by simply referring someone to you?

A: Yes! We found our referral program to be extremely successful last semester and hope it continues to be that way. Please ask your tutor for more information regarding our referral program or check out the rates page specific to you!

Q: Can I be tutored along with a friend in my same class?

A: We at D.S. Solutions understand that some people work much better with certain other individuals or in groups. So, if you would like to have a “group” tutor session you would just need to let us know ahead of time and we can typically accommodate your request. A 30% fee will be added and expected prior to the tutor session based on the original clienteles hourly rate! We normally shy away from “group” learning sessions because we have found that they are typically less effective than individual tutor sessions. We would be more than happy to discuss why we believe individual tutor sessions to be more effective if you would like more information!

Q: What if I need to reschedule or cancel a scheduled tutor session?

A: We understand that stuff happens. If you need to reschedule or cancel a tutor session, you need to let your tutor know 24 hours in advance, unless it is an emergency or sickness. Given that advanced notice, you will not lose your scheduled tutoring session nor will any kind of penalty be assessed!  If you reschedule or cancel without 24 hours of advanced notice to your tutor than a $30 fee will be assessed and you will still retain that session. If you have any questions regarding cancellation and rescheduling policy please ask us to clarify them for you! The cancellation and rescheduling policy is also stated within the tutoring contract signed by you and your tutor.
